Memorial services are planned for:
Tuesday, October 21st at 10:00 am at Calvary Chapel of Redlands
Calvary Chapel Church (The Packing House)
27165 San Bernardino Ave.
Redlands, CA 92374
The procession to and from the memorial service will be conducted by the Redlands and San Bernardino County fire Departments only.
Agencies are invited to participate in a static display of emergency service vehicles. The static display will be coordinated by Redlands Fire Department.
Please contact edirksen@cityofredlands.org or edirksen@confire.org for questions regarding the services and or static display.

Reg said...Darrell and Debbie, you were like a second set of parents to me. I can not thank the both of you enough for the love and support you have always showed to me and my family. I feel blessed each and everyday that you both were involved in my life, Carly's and my two girls, Jocelyn and Averie. Life will never be the same for me. You will be missed greatly. I will never forget the discussions we had at station 262 along with the laughs, training and Prison Break and the fun times at your river house. Joci said to me after I explained to her what had happened as she said "I love Daro, is he with Jesus? and I told her "yes sweatheart he and Debbie are with Jesus now." I will always have you both in my heart and thoughts forever. Darrell, I will always remain your student. I Love you guys.

Having known Darrell and Debbie for the 15 years that I worked with the Redlands Fire Department, I cannot put into words the sorrow I am feeling. I will always remember Darrell’s dedication to profession and family. I will never forget the example he set for all of us in the fire service. Many years ago, I moved to the mountains and purchased a house sorely in need of a new roof. I remember department members stating that Darrell had expertise in this area. I approached Darrell for advice on how to do it myself and what materials I would need. Without provocation, Darrell and Debbie showed up and spent two full days helping me get the job done right. To the Feuerhahns, department members were family members and family always helped a family member in need. At a recent fire in Northern California, I was leaving base camp and passed Darrell’s engine returning from the fire line. We both leaned out the window of our vehicles, waved and shouted words of encouragement. Darrell had that typical smile on his face that said, I am here doing what I was born to do- fight fire. I will miss both of them and always hold them in my prayers. A brother and a friend.

Ken said...Many times Darrell and I sat across from each other at our desks, completely entrenched in our personal views, adament that the other see it "our way". But, each of us also knew that we were brothers, not only in the Lord, not only as fellow friefighters. We knew and loved each other as brothers would. After we had our "arguments" we would always end up embracing each other in a big bearhug, patting each on the back and saying "love you, brother!" My heart's been hurting for a week now, missing Darrell and Debbie. Second to last email from him said he'd rededicated his life to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, (we praised Him together). Last email said he was bored and had just bought a motorcycle (Damn it!). Jr. and Mary, Donna and I are so sorry.

Rod Ivy said...I am Rod Ivy. I was Darrell's Karate Instructor in Kyokushin Karate,and friend, for many Years. I promoted Darrell to his Rank personally. Darrell and Debbie were close friends of my wife and I, as well as to the entire Kyokushin community. Darrell would be the first to tell you I have no problem talking your ear off..... But today, this week, I have been unable to find the words. We miss Darrell and Debbie immensely but look forward to rejoining them again some day. Jamie Riley said...Darrell and Debbie where do I begin, I was so blessed to know them personally and on a professional level. I have known this family for over 12 years. The early years of knowing them were spent knowing them on a personal level, because their son was one of my best friends. We grew apart on a personal level and I continued my relationship with big D, as I would see him come into the hospital to transport patients. His big hug and huge smile, always made my days brighter. Before retirement, he expressed to me how excited he was for now he and Debbie were finally really going to vacation and live the dreams of retirement. His marriage to Debbie was an amazing one, he loved her so much. They were best friends! I am going to miss them both so much. I am so sorry for the loss the family and close friends are experiencing. I know they are in a better place hanging with Jesus, doing their vacationing around the gates of heaven. Although I have worked for Colton Fire since 1983, I really never met Darrell until the early 1990’s at the Riverside County Multi-Agency Truck Operations Academy.
Darrell and I (along with Cameron Tetter) were co instructors for the search and rescue portion of the academy for 3-4 years. I so enjoyed working with Darrell.
Later, we did end up on a couple of strike teams together and I also was his main contact here at Colton when he was taking our “Open” BC test back in 2000/2001.
For such a big person, Darrell had the most calming voice (at least to me). His teaching skills at the academy were first rate and his depth of knowledge was second to none. I am also the son-in-law of retired Redlands Fire Chief Mel Enslow. His daughter (Kathie) and I spent some time talking with Darrell and Debbie at several Redlands Fire functions. I truly enjoyed all the moments and time I spend with Darrell at the academy and other fire service related events.
My wife Kathie and I are also Harley Davidson motorcycle riders, each riding our own bike. I have had multiple people ask me: “So, does this make you want to quit riding?” (It’s always people who do not ride and don’t understand the feeling of riding on the open road.)
My answer: “No!”
Darrell and Debbie died doing something they clearly enjoyed doing together. In my 30 years in the fire service, I have seen too many people die slow, painful, drawn out deaths from things such as cancer from on the job exposure. It is sad that all of this happened so shortly after such a great fire service career ended, but they died together and in a flash, not over the course of months. If I could pick a manner in which my wife and I pass away, it would be doing exactly what Darrell and Debbie were doing…..together on our bikes, wind in our face and enjoying life!
Darrell and Debbie’s accident does not make me want to stop riding. Their accident, as tragic as it was, just makes my wife and I better riders. In the fire service, we always try to learn from tragedies……..and I will bet $ 1000 that if Darrell could come back and discuss the events of that day ( I do not know all the facts or details ) he would want people to learn for the events on that day ……because instructing was something Darrell enjoyed and was great at.
On behalf of my wife Kathie and I, our hearts go out to all of the Feuerhahn family members.
I can’t wait to go home after this shift and go for a ride……….. a ride in memory of Darrell and Debbie Feuerhahn.

I have been in total shock and misbelief of the loss of these two 'great' people, My husband and I have had some fun times with the Feuerhahn's in the earlier years of knowing them, there were the friends that introduced us to Saki one night, that was a fun night needless to say ~ my husband and I enjoyed there company very much, the talks we had, the time my son and I went to there river house for a week-end to play and to see Darrell Sr. for the first time get upset with a young man that would not leave Debbie and I alone, I knew when Darrell took his glass's off the young man had better leave on his own or Darrell would show him the way ...... and it was probably going to be off the side of the boat we were on at the time. Debbie and Darrell have left a hole in my family's heart that will never be filled from there loss. Darrell Jr. was and will always be a very lucky young man to have had such great people as his parent so any one that knows Darrell Jr. will know his parents through him from his respect in life, his work witch he followed in Darrell Sr. foot steeps , through his kindness to others and love for life as Darrell and Debbie both lived there lives. You will be truly missed but 'never' forgotten .....

Deb and Darrell became my family when our two kids, Darrell Jr and Mary, wed. They welcomed us into their home and into their hearts. They both were incredibly good and kind people. Always thinking of others first. When Deb and I first learned we were going to be grandmas, we just did not know how we were going to handle it- how could we both hold the same baby at the same time? We just knew that's what we would be spending our days doing, holding and loving that grandbaby. We had a dilema on our hands.:)God heard us and we were blessed with beautiful twin grand daughters, Kiera and Harley. Problem solved...I remember Deb saying "Cool-one for you and one for me!" This last week has been so hard on little Darrell and Mary, but I am so impressed with the love and support they have gotten from family and friends and the Redlands Fire Department and the San Bernardino County Fire Department. They have taken such good care of the kids. Thank you. Deb and Big Darrell, I make you this promise, that Kiera and Harley will always know the love from their Nana and Papa and they will always know how very special they were to you. You two will live on in Darrell and the twins. I know how proud you both are of the fine young man Darrell has become.I am so proud of him too. He will take what he has learned from you and pass that onto his children. When Kiera and Harley look up to the stars at night, they will blow kisses to their Nana and Papa. Again, I want to thank everyone who has made this terrible tragedy a little more bearable for the family. Your love and kindness has touched everyone. A special thank you to Darrell's true friends-his brothers in heart-I know Deb and Darrell would thank you for taking such good care of their son-they thought of you as their family too. Stay strong Mary and Darrell- you are not alone. Your family and friends will always be by your side. I will miss you Deb and Big Darrell. We will always remember Deb and Big Darrell and the things that they stood for: love and devotion to family, service to others before self, big smiles, many laughs, great times and FUN, FUN, FUN. I did not know the Feuerhahn's personally but I worked with Mary & recently went to school with her in Tennessee. Mary: Be strong & know that the "Grizzly" family and your friends from C-pod are here for you. Make sure the girls continue to know what special people their nana & papa were. You & your family are in my thoughts and prayers through this time of sorrow.

I tried to get in email-contact with Darrell Feuerhahn. Now we Feuerhahns from Germany are shocked and sad about this terrible accident. Our deepest sympathy to the family. Thomas Feuerhahn from Cologne, Germany.
